Discussion Questions

Discuss the story in small groups using the following questions. {10–15 minutes}

  1. What are some of the miracles that the disciples had seen Jesus do? What happened on their boat ride to make them afraid? What do you think would have happened if the disciples told the wind and waves to be still? What happened when Jesus told them to be still? What does that tell us about Jesus?
    Takeaway
    Even the wind and waves obey Jesus, because he is the Creator.
  2. Do you remember what Jesus said to the disciples after he calmed the storm? Why do you think he said they had no faith? What would it have looked like for them to have faith during the storm? When we encounter scary things, like the storm, what can we remember?
    Takeaway
    Faith in Jesus helps us face our biggest fears.
  3. What would have happened to the disciples if Jesus hadn’t stilled the storm? What would happen if Jesus hadn’t died on the cross for us? What difference does it make that he stilled the storm and died for us?
